Four Life-Saving Ambulances to Kharkiv
Russia’s repeated bombings and drone strikes on Ukrainian health facilities, hospitals, and field hospitals have caused shortages of almost everything – including ambulances.
As the war in Ukraine enters its fourth year, the need for emergency medical support has never been greater. As Russia’s attacks continue, even targeting emergency vehicles, the need for ambulances is urgent.
IRR-TV Finland (our UkraineAid Finnish office), recently acquired and delivered four well maintained Mercedes-Benz Sprinter ambulances to the Kharkiv region border guard district. Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine—just 30 kilometres from the Russian border. Due to its location, the city is the target of continuous Russian drone and aerial bomb attacks.
These ambulances are more than vehicles; they are lifelines. Each is equipped with defibrillators, emergency stretchers, and vital medical equipment, ensuring that wounded soldiers and civilians can be transported safely to hospitals.
The ambulances are now operating between cities Kharkiv–Poltava–Kyiv, transporting wounded soldiers to military hospitals in safer zones, farther from the front lines in eastern Ukraine. A large number of the wounded are fathers with children who are defending their families and their homeland.
At the official ambulance handover ceremony, Colonel Dimitri S. of the Ukrainian Border Guard reported that 16 soldiers had been wounded that very morning. The ambulances immediately set out on rescue missions, proving their critical role in saving lives. In life and death situations, every vehicle is a lifesaving, indispensable asset.
The Cost of Saving Lives
The unit price for a similar emergency vehicle is $300,000 CAD. UkraineAid secured and shipped the acquired ambulances for $37,500 CAD per vehicle. We are working to send more ambulances to Ukraine.
Why It Matters
Every ambulance represents hope in the midst of chaos. In life-and-death situations, these vehicles are indispensable assets—bringing urgent care to fathers, sons, and families caught in the crossfire.
